feedback for lynda.com
I like the lecture from lynda.com. I spent couple hours to watch the video in the last few days (it is a long section, and I did not finish it yet...) The lecture on the video is very practical and useful for the beginners. The author talks us through on how to apply Photoshop on website. During the lesson, she uses the excise file to show us how to make some changes for images. Since we don't have the excise file, I think I will need an other day to practice all the skills that I learn from the lecture.
feedback for class
I think we all have good time on discussing our own topic. Since we have many different questions during the research process, it is a good chance for us to clarify some problems. My problem is I got the worst topic (?) I actually love my topic, as it does help a lot for the community. But, I feel confused about what the purpose of this event. This morning I have good news. I contact my specialist (Richard) and he said he would send me a file that related to universal design. I hope I get a direction on my project.

feedback about lynda.com
I like the format of lynda.com. It does a great job on explaining the process to design or redesign a website. The good thing of the study material is the video illustrates the process by showing photos or lists the ideas in point-form. It is specailly useful for a Engish as second language student. After the first lesson, I really like some of ideas, I wonder if we can download some exercise from the lynda.com.
Even though I am not totally new with the idea of core process, I still think it i svery useful cause the author explain the process with her real experience and case study. This helps me to understand how those concept really works in the reality.

Ideas of Universal Design
I did some reseach on universal design, I an surpirsed that there are lot of information about the concept. The idea of universal design aims to meet the needs of all people that include different ages, physical abilities, sensory abilities and cognitive skills. Although the single solution in the products may not be totally usable for everyone, they can serve as many people possible. One of main ideas of universal design is to focus on wide ranges of abilities, instead of disabilities. Sometime disabilities may be caused by environment. For example, if we try to find a keyhole and unlock the door when the light is off. The function product itself is not designed to be accessible by every situation.
Here are some principles of universal design:
Equitable use
Flexibility in use
Simple and intuitive use
Perceptible information
Tolerance for error
Low physical effort
Size and space for approach and use

Good selection?
I think it is great to have George to explain all the topics in the class. It definitely helps us know more about the topic. I like the topic (Universal Design) even it is not my first choice. One of the reason I chosen this topic is the benefit it brings to the society. When I studied product design, I learnt that universal design does help a lot of people. They could be people with disable, pregnant women, children and elders. If I did not learn it, I probably will never notice the importance of universal design. I hope my work would bring the concerns to the minority.

Expectation
Expectation for the class GR605 ?
Before I walked into the classroom, I thought it would be a class to teach us how to use some computer skills. However, after the presentation, it gives me an idea that I would learn more than graphic skills, it would trains my sense on knowing what people's need on digital media. Graphic is much more than books and magazine, as a graphic designer, we can't overlook the potential growth on the web. In this class, I hope I can know more about how we can use our creativity and design skills in this digital world.
My coolest experience
My coolest experience in the web is being able to listen and download my favorite music. Before there is iTunes, mp3 was a new tech that some websites allowed users to download free music. I still remember I was so amazing by this new things. It kept me for an hour to search some old songs that I will never able to find those so easy.

Grand Opening--my background
My name is Hiumei. I am so surprised my first assignment for the class is to open a blog. I think it is a great idea for those who are never create a website (including me) to experience the basic idea of how ideas are generated and organize in website.
I born in Hong Kong. I came here couple years ago to study design. I believed it was my opportunity to explore a world outside my save zone and to learn something new from other country. I first studied Industrial Design in my BFA in SFSU. It is a school to provide me a basic principle of design and have me to learn some basic skills on sketching and computer skills. For the last semester in SFSU, I met a teacher who was also teaching Academy of Art by that time. He gave an idea what is the real standard in the design industry in the real world. It was a tough class because he always push our skills and creative to something that we could not image before. Even my ideas were not always being accepted, it was a very good experience and nice to have such teacher to help us to learn so much in only one semester. That's why I decided to come here after I graduated.
